After I had finished my production, I evaluated what I had done. I did this by answering selected questions that made me look back at my production and deconstruct it, evaluating each section of it and how this reflected my planning and research tasks. I also discussed throughout my evaluation where my strengths and weaknesses were in my production.
Evaluation
January 13, 2009Main Task – final production
January 13, 2009For my final production, I had to use all skills I had developed during this project. I was now able to use Garage Band with confidence and this helped the recording go much better as I knew how to cut and merge tracks together to make the show reports link together much more smoothly. I used all of my research into other radio broadcasts to help me put the show together, such as the stories it covered and the overall tone of my show, to make it more attractive to my target audience and engage listeners.
Preliminary Task
January 13, 2009My preliminary task gave me the opportunity to practice my interviewing and recording skills before it came to the final production piece. This was an important tester as it gave me a chance to practice with my chosen presenters and reporters. The reason that this task was so important to do was because it gave me a clue as to how long I would have to prepare and produce my main task recording.
Research and Planning
January 12, 2009In Task 1, I experimented with different sound bites to convey different moods and emotions. This helped me get started with Garage Band and practice techniques that would help me later on in the project.
For Task 2, I collected together ideas of where exactly my radio production could be broadcast. Then, using the sound effects off of Garage Band, I tried to create these atmospheres. This was key research towards my main product as I knew exactly what situations I was able to create when it came to my production.
In Task 3, I deconstructed a number of jingles. From this, it gave me ideas of how to create my own jingle, and what tone it needed to be for my project, and also what it needed to contain.
For Task 4 I deconstructed other radio productions of two news programmes, one local and one national. This gave me ideas of what stories needed to be covered in my own work, and the type of tone my show would have to have as a local production.
In task 5 I experimented with interview styles. From doing this, I got to practice how to use Garage Band to record, and also practice what I would be doing during my main production.
For Task 6 I looked at some local radio websites. This gave an insight into what topics the stations covered, what music styles they broadcast and the overall tone of the station. This also gave me ideas of what to include in my own show.
In Task 7, I looked at what listings local radio stations had and from this, I was able to get a basic idea again of what times my show would be broadcast and what would be relevant at these times.
Task 8 was where I began my major planning began. I began planning what my show would include, who the characters of my show will be and wrote the basic scripts for the production. From this planning, I had a good idea of what my show would be like.
Task 9.
Task 9 was minor planning towards the preliminary task. Once this was recorded it was an example as to what I would have to create when it came to my main production.
Task 10.
For tasks 10 I redrafted scripts and added more detail to the stories. I also found the people I needed to record the main show.
Task 11.
For task 11 I drafted places and environments for where I could do a vox-pop. From these, I chose one I could use in my production.
Task 12
For task 12 I experimented with my introduction jingle. I mixed different sound effects and jingles together to create my jingle, which was good practice for later on in the production when I would need to mix sound effects together.
